The Italian authorities announced Monday that the country will eliminate all entry requirements on June 1.
In accordance with the announcement made by Minister Massimo, as of the 1st of June, all travelers regardless of country of origin will no longer be required to carry an original vaccination, recovery or test certificate to enter Italy.
That means that when the new law comes into effect the entire population will be granted no restrictions on entry.
Italy is among the EU countries that remained in place the most strict restrictions because of the high rate of infection were being reported in the initial phases of this pandemic.
As of now the time of this writing, travelers are required to present the certificate of vaccination that proves that the holder has received their primary vaccination within the past nine months or had an additional shot. Italy also accepts recovery certificates that prove that the person was cured of COVID within the nine months prior to the date of vaccination and also accepted tests for COVID-19.
But, with the summer travel season just in the near future and the majority of other countries in the EU/EEA having loosened their entry requirements, Italy decided to do the same.
Furthermore there is a possibility that the decision taken by the Italian authorities to eliminate their COVID-19 entry regulations is due to the low rate of infection along with the high rates of vaccination.
The most recent data available from the World Health Organization shows that Italy has registered 141,325 brand new Coronavirus cases within the last 7 days.
For the rate of vaccination as of May 19, The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control reports that on May 19th, Italy has administered a total of 136.206.350 COVID-19 doses. Of the of the adult population 87.4 percent the population have received their first vaccination and 77.3 percent have received an additional dose.Apart from Italy there are 19 other EU/EEA nations have already gotten rid of all their restrictions. Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland have all been able to get rid of their regulations until now. All travelers are granted no-restrictions travel to these countries.
The announcement was made in The Italian Ministry of Health. The Ministry stated that the requirement of presenting an COVID card upon entry in Italy is not being extended once it expires on May 31st.Â
