Tips for Homeschooling with a Busy Family

What better than to be able to teach your kids while they’re still young? Homeschooling can be an easy way to ensure that your children get a great education while you stay organized and on top of everything else that’s going on in your busy home. Although there are definitely challenges to boys and a dog homemaking homeschooling tips for busy folks, these tips will help you overcome them so that you can have the best time homeschooling with your children and keep learning fun! Here are some tips for homeschooling with a busy family.

Having a good plan

Many parents want to homeschool their children but just don’t know where to start. The truth is, you can teach your kids without much more than a passion for education and an understanding of basic educational theory. In fact, putting together a plan doesn’t have to be intimidating. Use these tips and tricks to get started today.

Kids love to help out

If you have young children, it might be tempting to keep them home during your busy times. But even small children can get in on some of your tasks; think about what they like to do and brainstorm ways that they can lend a hand. For example, if you need to do more laundry than usual, ask your preschooler if he wants to help out by folding clothes or sorting socks. A toddler may enjoy helping you make cookies or wrapping gifts (although there are better tools for gift-wrapping than little hands). And whatever age, kids love making their beds and tidying up their toys; let them know it’s okay to do things differently from how you do things, as long as they keep their own spaces clean. Encourage their sense of pride!

Set aside time each day

The most successful homeschoolers set aside time each day to plan lessons, grade papers, and check in on how each child is doing. If you want to be one of those successful homeschoolers, then I highly recommend setting aside two hours a day (split into 30-minute increments if that works better) as your time. Consider putting these two hours on your calendar every week—yes, even if you’re working full-time. You can’t learn anything unless you have time to plan it out. Plan your entire school year at once: Rather than planning one lesson per week or month, consider planning out all of your lessons for an entire semester or academic year.

Make time for play

After school, sports and activities are important, but it’s also essential to make time for family time. Going on walks together, playing games and doing chores as a family—even if your schedule is tight—will teach your kids valuable life skills that they can carry into adulthood. In addition to bonding as a family, these times will give you valuable opportunities to practice homeschooling techniques that you want to incorporate into your child’s daily routine. For example, if she has an upcoming test in math or science and wants extra help after school, now is the perfect opportunity to try out flashcards or other study tools while also spending quality time with her.

Reward yourself often!

Not only is it important to reward yourself when you complete small tasks, but it’s also important to give yourself weekly goals and make sure that you achieve them. Make sure that you have planned out your week in detail and have something specific to look forward to every single day of your week. Whenever you achieve one of these goals, don’t just pat yourself on the back. Take time out for yourself! Treat yourself to dinner at your favorite restaurant or go get a massage. Whatever makes you happy is okay – as long as it’s not unhealthy food! Stay healthy and work hard to get where you want to be in life! The more self-motivated and productive that you are, can guarantee success in everything else that life has in store for us!
