Jonaid Saki, chief coordinator of the Gana Sanghati Andolan, said that the BM container depot at Sitakunda in Chittagong was trying to cover up such a big accident with various political implications. Attempts are being made to blame one party for the accident.
He said this while visiting BM container depot at around 3 pm on Tuesday.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Jonaid Saki said, “Reviewing the past events, it can be seen that if an accident happens in a factory or an organization, it is tried as sabotage. No evidence of sabotage was found here. This may have happened due to complete negligence of the factory management. We demand a thorough investigation into the incident.
Earlier, Rashed Khan, joint general secretary of the People’s Rights Council, and Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan, acting general secretary of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) spoke.
Rashed Khan said he had learned from talking to fire service members that they did not have the modern equipment they were supposed to have. Besides, the irresponsibility of the owner has come to light. In such factories, the factory authorities often start fires to get insurance money, it should be investigated whether something like that has happened here.
Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan has commented that these accidents have proved the roadmap for the development of the government by sacrificing the lives of the people.
“We do not have the capacity to handle such an accident,” he said. We do not know whether the investigation report of the previous incidents has been published or if the report has been published but the recommendations have been implemented. If it had been implemented, such incidents would not have happened.
The fire broke out at BM Container Depot Loading Station area of Sitakunda in Chittagong around 9:15 pm on Saturday. An hour and a half later, the chemical in a container exploded. Then, with one explosion after another, the fire got out of control. The bodies of 43 people have been recovered in the last three days.
