Udyam Registration was to simplify the process of registering a business under the Micro Small Medium Enterprise Act easier for entrepreneurs (MSME). The procedural structure was a frantic and time-consuming bureaucratic process that required a great deal of document processing. Things have altered and, to some extent, improved after the establishment of Udyam Registration.

If you run a medium, small, or micro-enterprise and haven’t registered it yet, you should know that registering your MSME with Udyam Registration entitles you to a slew of perks.

Prior to the UAM system, there was an EM-I/II system (Entrepreneur Memorandum). Under this arrangement, entrepreneurs used to pick a heterogeneous system.

To complete MSME registration, some of them used to rely on the national site, while others relied on state-run websites. In addition, just a few of them previously relied on paper documentation.

Udyam Registration is a government-issued registration that comes with a certificate of recognition and a unique number. This is for certifying small and medium-sized businesses and organisations.

The main goal of this initiative was to provide the government with a mechanism to provide the most benefits to Indian medium and small-scale businesses and industries who registered through MSME and used their Aadhar Card Number.

Who is eligible to participate in the registration process?

Organizations that qualify for Udyam Registration are either engaged in the manufacture, production, processing, or preservation of products or in the provision of services.

Traders who purchase, sell, import, or export products, in other words, are not eligible to register for Udyam Registration.

An enterprise is classified as a micro, small, or medium enterprise based on the following criteria:

a microbusiness with a sales of less than five crore rupees and an investment in plant, machinery, or equipment of less than one crore rupees;

a small company having a capital investment in plant and machinery or equipment of less than ten crore rupees and annual sales of less than fifty crore rupees; and

a medium-sized company with a turnover of not more than 250 crore rupees and an investment in plant and machinery or equipment of not more than fifty crore rupees.
