5 Principles of First Aid?

First aid training is a significant life-saving course designed to treat people and provide immediate help to someone who is sick and injured. By Doing so ng this life-threatening situation can be prevented and the person may be saved before full medical care is provided.

The main aims of first aid are as follows:

  • Preserve life
  • Prevent the first escalation of illness or injury
  • Promote recovery
  • Provide pain relief
  • Protect the unconscious

1. Preservation of  Life

Preserving life refers to preventing severe situations to save lives. Two examples of life preservation in a first aid course include providing CPR, attending to a choking person, clearing blocked airways, maintaining air circulation in the body while waiting for medics, etc., helping prevent drastic situations like a heart attack which can happen within minutes or brain damage.

In the case of CPR, even if you don’t have formal First Aid training in Tucson, you can use your hands-only to help keep someone alive until professional help arrives.

2. Illness or injury should be stopped from escalating

When your first aid training starts, you’ll learn how to attend to injuries and help people with wounds. This helps prevent further spread or damage. For example, if you see patient bleeding profusely, as a first aider your goal would be to stop the bleeding until professional medical care arrives.

3. Promoting recovery

This requires a first aid kit to help the person in need while ensuring a soon recovery. This includes washing, disinfecting, and bandaging a wound, or in some cases, is an antibiotic ointment to promote healing.

4. Relieving pain

You should only Offer pain relief should if it isn’t risky for the patient. However, It’s advisable to consult a medical expert first before offering any sort of medication.

5. Protect the unconscious

To protect an unconscious person, safely remove them from a dangerous environment like a fire or busy road and move them to much safer conditions nearby. When you are doing your first aid training, in that course, participants learn an unconscious person should be positioned so that breathing airways aren’t obstructed. The aim is to protect the unconscious person before medical help arrives.

3 steps for emergencies

Follow these three basic steps in case you encounter any emergency:

1. Check the scene for danger

First, you need to look at your surroundings and see any danger signs, like signs as fire, falling debris, or violent people. However, if your safety has a potential threat you can move away from the area and call for help.

If the scene is safe, you need to first examine the condition of the sick or injured person. Make sure not to move them unless it is necessary to protect them from danger.

2. Call for medical help, if needed

After examining that person If you suppose the sick or injured person needs emergency medical care, ask an available person to call 911 or the local number for emergency medical services. If no one is available, you need to call yourself.

3. Provide care

If you believe you can do that safely, remain with the sick or injured person until professional help arrives. Make sure to cover them with a warm blanket to comfort them and keep them calm and composed so the danger doesn’t escalate. If you have basic first aid skills you learned through first aid training, try to treat any potentially dangerous and life-threatening injuries they have.

Note: Make sure to remove yourself from danger if at any point you believe that situation would put you at risk.

Final thoughts

First provides reassurance to the patient and confidence in the first aider by preventing serious harm. This is a significant and indispensable skill that doesn’t only help the injured or affected ones but develops a sense of empathy along with awareness of the suffering ones.
