Some important tips before you start your helicopter pilot training

When you enroll yourself for helicopter pilot training, you are about to enter into one of the most challenging and exciting careers in the aviation industry. As with any new career, it is important to understand the steps that you need to take before starting your helicopter pilot training.

There are several things that you should consider before starting your helicopter pilot training. As with any other aviation course, the main thing is to be able to commit yourself to learn all the information required.

Listed below are some useful tips on what you should do before entering helicopter pilot training school:

Every helicopter pilot is required to have an FAA private pilot certificate

No pilot is allowed to fly a helicopter without an FAA private pilot certificate. To obtain this you must be able to demonstrate skill, knowledge, and proficiency in flying a helicopter in all kinds of weather. The process of obtaining this certificate involves several steps, such as passing the written test, completing a minimum 50-hour ground school course from a flying school in Australia, and taking an FAA practical flight exam. The flight time required to obtain this is typically spent in the helicopter simulators before flying the real plane.

You must pass an FAA written knowledge test on aviation regulations, aerodynamics, and operating procedures that are specific to helicopters

The FAA requires a minimum number of hours in flight training from an instructor and at least 3 take-offs and 3 landings by yourself. An FAA instrument rating is required if you choose to fly at night or in clouds. For your safety and the safety of those around you, you must pass an FAA written knowledge test on aviation regulations, aerodynamics, and operating procedures that are specific to helicopters. You will take the test in front of an FAA examiner who will make sure you understand the material before he or she issues your private pilot certificate. This includes a minimum of 40 questions testing your knowledge of operating procedures, emergency procedures, and communications in regards to helicopter equipment specific to the aircraft you will be operating.

You must be covering aviation regulations, aerodynamics, and operating procedures that are specific to helicopters

You will need to study aviation regulations, aerodynamics, and operating procedures specific to helicopters, as well as how to fly them in various weather conditions. You will be taught more advanced flying techniques like performing autorotation, and special situations such as flares for landing in bad weather.

Choose a reputable flight training school before enrolling in helicopter pilot training

It’s important to choose a reputable flight training school before enrolling in helicopter pilot training. You should be prepared to see the areas during an introductory tour of the school and meet with instructors and current students. Flight training is not just about becoming a pilot. It is also about learning the theory and technicalities of aviation, gaining hands-on experience, as well as preparing yourself for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) exams and exams from other civil aviation authorities. Before enrolling in any helicopter pilot training school, ensure it meets all local and federal rules and regulations.
