Domain authority is a statistic that Google used to rate a website’s reputability a few years ago. Google stopped publishing this number and its page-specific counterpart, page authority, a while ago, but it’s still certainly part of their algorithm in some form or another.
Almost any website with at least some high-quality content can achieve a domain authority of 10 or above. Getting over that point, on the other hand, can be difficult.
However, because your domain authority influences how Google perceives your content, it’s useful to keep track of where you are and where you want to be if you want to reach to the top of the Google SERP for a term.
A domain authority of 20–30 is considered appropriate for a local firm. Most local search results will show you at the top of the list if you do this. National or multinational businesses, on the other hand, frequently need to set larger goals. A domain authority of 40–60 will put you on the right track here, though greater is always better.
2. Get More Backlinks
Backlinks are an important factor in determining the value of your content in Google’s eyes. The concept is simple: if a website or webpage contains useful information, other websites will naturally want to link to it.
The main issue is that most people don’t look very hard for good stuff. They frequently skim through the first few search results on a page, find a credible source, and link to it.
As a result, high-ranking material attracts more backlinks. Content that does not rank well tends to fade into obscurity over time.
3. Optimize Everything for the Right Keywords
Ranking well on the Google SERP is all about your keyword strategy, but ranking well doesn’t mean anything if you’re ranking for the wrong keywords.
You’ll want to perform a lot of research as you design your keyword approach. Google’s Keyword Planner is a wonderful tool for finding relevant keywords with a lot of searches. It’s a difficult riddle to solve, but it’s one you’ll need to solve if you want to get the most out of your keyword approach.
And…what if you come across keywords that you really, really, really want to rank for but don’t have the domain authority to do so yet? Add them to ad groups and start a Google Ad campaign with them.
