Mortgage Payment Considered 30 Days Late and get Support from your Lender

If you know that you will be late with a payment, if you have questions about it or if you think the claim is incorrect, you should contact the payee or the debt collection company before the due date.

If you do not pay an invoice, the payee, for example, banks and other creditors, can take various measures to get paid, for example, add different fees, go on to debt collection, the Enforcement Officer, or the court. If, on the other hand,

you dispute an incorrect invoice on objective grounds, you may still have to pay certain extra fees if it turns out that you are still liable for payment, but you will not receive a payment remark.

To think of

  • Pay bills and invoices on time so you avoid extra fees, default interest, or remarks
  • If you receive a demand for payment that you think is wrong, you should write to the bank or lender immediately and dispute the demand for payment.
  • Use our Payment Requirements Checklist to decide what to do.
  • As long as you pay or dispute the payment claim on time, you will not receive a payment remark
  • If the demand for payment is correct, but you can not pay right now, you can contact the bank, lender, or debt collection company and try to agree on an installment plan

Pay well in advance your Lender

It is important that you pay off your loans and other debts well in advance of the due date as it takes some time to transfer the money.

You are obliged to pay on time even if you are ill or absent, for example, regardless of whether you have received the invoice or not.

Especially on long weekends and the turn of the month, it can take longer for your payment to arrive, as the giro systems can be heavily loaded and it can take several days before a payment is registered with the recipient.

If you do not pay on time, you may incur costs such as reminder fees and other types of fees.

If you know that you will be late with a payment, if you have questions about the payment or if you think the claim is incorrect, you should contact the bank, lender, or debt collection company and talk them.

If you have not received the invoice, you should also contact them. If you are unsure that a payment claim is correct, you can first read our Checklist for Payment Claims and on the  Wrong Claim page.

If the lender decides to proceed with foreclosure, that process can add hundreds or thousands of dollars to the cost of your loan. And in that case, it will be even harder for you to keep making payments, catch up on missed payments, and keep your home.

Mortgage Payment Is it obvious when and to whom I should pay?

An invoice or other payment claim must always state when and to whom you are to pay. Sometimes legal terms are used that are not obvious to everyone.
